Natasha's bike safety day.

I went to the bike lessons with Mr Tonkin. I got to ride a big bike. It was fun when I went around the cones, but the bike wiggled quite a lot and I counldn't use the brakes safely. So I had to swap that bike for another one more my size. This showed me how important it is to have the correct sized bike for all sorts of safety reasons. I learned a lot from Mr Tonkin and enjoyed the morning spent biking with my friends.

Bailey and Rileys Bike Safety Morning

We have been spending time with Mr Tonkin doing bike safety. I have learned how important it is to wear a bright coloured helmet to make sure I am clearly seen by cars on the road. We have also learnt how to break safely, ride in a straight line and check for other traffic on the road while biking.

I also had lots of fun being taught by Mr Tonkin. He showed me how to use my brakes. We had fast and slow races which taught us how to have good control of our bikes. I loved the fast races and I won lots of them

Spider topic

This term we are learning about spiders for our topic. These are some of the spiders we have been researching:Daddy long legs,Trapdoors,Tarantulas and Tunnel spiders. We found out that some spiders are bigger than 10cm (scary). Did you know that Daddy long legs kill White Tails but not humans because their fangs are too small to bite into human flesh. We now know that some spiders can run on water and that spiders eat flying insects. Did you know that some Tarantulas live only for a few months but others can live for 18 months and that some are born blind. This has been an interesting topic to study and we have enjoyed doing research on some of the different spiders found around the world.

Eva's Recycling

This term room 6 has taken on the duty of organising food recycling at lunch times. We all take turns to place the green recycling bins outside so that children can put any uneaten food scraps in them. After lunch everyday we take the recyling bins over to the compost bin by the garden and recycle these scraps. Then we wash the bins out and leave them to dry outside our class room.

Jayde in action!

On Wednesday we were shown how to play hockey. First we did some dribbling, we had to use the flat side of the hockey stick(it was a little bit tricky for me). Next we had a race with our hockey balls and sticks,we had to listen very carefully to the coach's instructions. Then we played a game called "Rob the nest". Natasha, Sara, Riley, Corbin and I were in a team together, but we did not win. It was an excellent way to spend a morning and I enjoyed playing hockey with my classmates.

Corbin's Hockey Coaching

On Wednesday we did hockey coaching on the tennis court outside room two. We even go to play a game called "Rob the nest", which was really cool, but my team did not win. Finally we had a game of hockey where the Coach called out a number and the person who was this number had to try to score a goal. It was a quite hard and you had to be concentrating and listening well.

Sapphire's big day out.

This Sapphire on the swing at the Saltwater baths. My class was the first ones in the water for a swim. When we got out we made an aquarium for all the crabs we caught. We had wrestling matches with the BIG crabs, Riley's crab always won because it was the strongest. Peter made an obsticle course that was TRICKY and a real challenge. I enjoyed our day at the saltwater baths and am looking forward to our next class trip.

Then we all had lunch ,then it was back to playing, crab hunting and a last swim. It was a great day and I was sorry when it was time to go back to school.

Anihana on the bars

On Wednesday room 7, 6 and room 5 went to the salt water baths, in Motueka. This is me on the bars first in the playground having fun with my friends. Room 6 got to go swimming straight away but it was cold at the start so I got out. Back at the bars I was swinging and playing then Asti came to play with me. We found that we both could miss 2 and I could also miss 3. Then we had to have lunch, our class sat under the big tree together. Afterwards we ran around until we were allowed back into the pool. Unfortunately everyone had stirred up the algae off the bottom so it was really dirty. We still dived in and played follow the leader as well as tag. We had an excellent day at the salt water baths.
